A new day and a new book series has begun! Welcome, to Crescent City.

Before I start, I’m putting these trigger warnings out now – TRIGGER WARNING: drug use, murder, gore, violence, blood, murder, gore, alcohol consumption, death of a loved one, depression, drugs, discrimination, misogyny, parental neglect, PTSD, sexism, slavery, slut-shaming, substance abuse, attempted suicide

Think of Crescent City as a modern day Velaris. A world full of fae, werewolves, angels and demons…and in a world full of high-rise apartmentsinternet and cell phones. Crescent City is the one place where all forms of magic (and technology) intersect into one, unforgettable town.

“That’s the point of it, Bryce. Of life. To live, to love, knowing that it might all vanish tomorrow. It makes everything that much more precious.”

Half-fae Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life-working hard all day and partying all night-  until her life was torn apart the day she discovered a demon had committed horrific murders of her best friend Danika and her pack after returning home one evening – leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. Two years later and the case has run cold, but Bryce still wants the death of her friends to be avenged.

“Vengeance incarnate. Wrath’s bruised heart. She would bow for no one.”

When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

“Light it up”

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose-to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

“Look toward where it hurts the most. That’s always where the answers are.”

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion-one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.

“There are worse fates than death, you know.”

Honestly, the first third of this book I was bored. It was very slow going and I found it easy to put it down. However, I persevered as I was told it gets better and DANG – it got better! We went from 0 to 100 pretty immediately and from there on we remain fast paced until the end of the book. I loved Bryce and Hunts transition from begrudgingly working together, towards finding healing and closure with the help of each other, and there is something really powerful in that.

“The universe is massive. Some believe it has no end. Or that our universe might be one in a multitude, as bountiful as the stars in the sky or the sand on a beach.”

I loved Lehabah. A little sassy, fire sprite who flirts like there is no tomorrow! I also really want to see a picture of Syrinx, he sounds so cute and also very smart when naughtiness is afoot! There is not one single character that I didn’t loveBryce: Seems cold and a party girl, but she has so many layers hidden beneath it. Hunt: Fallen Angel. How can I not love him? Ruhn, Danika, Juniper, Fury … the list goes on and on. These characters are amazing and I got so attached!

“Through love, all is possible.”
