“We lose ourselves in books, we find ourselves there too."

So I thought I’d treat you all to a double whammy – a two-in-one book review.

Giovanna Fletcher has created a lovable story about plain old Sophie May who works in a bakery in Rosefont Hill. Billy Buskin is a famous movie star. When the two meet unexpectedly, no one could foresee what the future held for them both.

“I wish I could bottle the feelings of love inside me and save them for a rainy day – to remind myself of their magnitude in those moments of doubt.”

In Billy and Me, we first meet our characters, we learn about Sophie May’s ordinary life, doing what she loves – Baking and reading.

“I had become awkward and tried my best to avoid everyone. I hated attention, people asking me questions or putting me in the spotlight; I preferred to blend into the background unnoticed. I felt safer that way”

We also meet Billy and his LA lifestyle.

“There is no happiness like that of being loved by your fellow creatures, and feeling that your presence is an addition to their comfort.”

A famous actor enjoying all the opportunities that Hollywood and fame brings.

“I think it’s funny how life can lead you down certain paths which you wouldn’t have taken otherwise.”

When Billy travels to Rosefont Hill for filming, Sophie has no clue who he is but their romance grows and we see them both blossom through all the trials and tribulations of every day life for both of them because life isn’t as straight forward as we’d all like it to be. We see a love we all want!

“I have for the first time found what I can truly love – I have found you. You are my sympathy – my better self – my good angel. I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wraps my existence about you, and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one.”

We then continue to follow their budding romance in Always with Love. When they decide to go over to LA as part of their Christmas celebrations, we learn this is Sophie’s first experience of meeting them too. She sees a close knit family and is instantly welcomed in. But not everything is as it seems and we soon learn that the LA lifestyle isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and tensions run high in a family who have one idea of how life should be with Billy and Billy’s idea. When Billy decides to stay a bit longer in LA, him and Sophie communicate via letters and phone calls. They put their love and trust to the test but is it worth the risk?

“How can a relationship last anyway if it’s not built on the solid foundations of trust and honesty?”

I’ll let you find out for yourselves!

“forever only lasts for as long as it’s allowed to, until something else steps in and stops it from existing.”

Giovanna Fletcher has created a wonderfully heartwarming and charming book series. A welcoming story where you feel that you are having a chat with your friend over a cuppa. We become a part of Billy and Sophie’s lives and grow with them. Sophie and Billy are both completely relatable and you instantly feel a connection to them the second I opened Billy and Me. Sophie’s insecurities and worries are portrayed so well that you can totally see yourself in her shoes. Giovanna (and Sophie- May) teaches us that it’s okay to be ourselves, that we don’t have to change just to fit in. We can make things work if we try and we want them too. That love can overcome anything.

I love these books and can’t wait for the next one (please be another one!)
