Crimes of Grindelwald Screenplay

Hello everyone,

HERE IS THE REVIEW YOU’VE ALL (I mean I’ve) BEEN WAITING FOR!

Genuinely, I’ve been waiting until the release of the DVD to release this review and it’s been written since the film/screenplay was first released!

This is a gem I’ve been holding onto because…well…SPOILERS!

We begin where we more or less left off in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Gellert Grindelwald, a powerful dark wizard, was captured in New York with the help of Newt Scamander. But this doesn’t hold the peace for long.

Grindelwald escapes and sets about gathering followers, to join him in his quest for supremacy; a quest most are unsuspecting of: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

“Listen to me. The disapproval of cowards is praise to the brave. Your name will be written in glory when wizards rule the world. And the clock is ticking faster.”

Dumbledore must act, and act fast he does and enlists the help (once again) of Newt who agrees to help.

“I can’t move against Grindelwald. It has to be you.”

However, Newt is unaware of what danger lies in wait. This is a tale of the lines drawn as love and loyalty are tested amongst the truest of friends and the strongest of families.

“Oh, Newt. You never met a monster you couldn’t love.”

The wizarding world is ever increasingly dividing and it’s up to Newt and his friends to heal these divides before more harm is done.

“You don’t seek power or popularity. You simply ask, is the thing right in itself? If it is, then I must do it, no matter the cost.”

This second screenplay from J.K. Rowling and the Fantastic Beasts universe expands on events which helped to shape the wizardinf world and the characters we know. There are also some wonderful nods towards the Harry Potter books and films which will delight any fan of the series.

Meanwhile, lurking under the surface, is an obscurial on a quest. Credence survived. And with the help of a Maledictus known as Nagini (yes, yes you heard me right).

“I present to you – a Maledictus…once trapped in the jungles of Indonesia, she is the carrier of a blood curse. Such Underbeings are destined, through the course of their lives, to turn permanently into beasts…Over time, she will not be able to transform back. She will be forever trapped in the body of a snake.”

Credence is on a quest to find out his true identity. An identity which Grindelwald claims to know…but is it true?

He is extraordinary, and this is just his beginning.”

What I love especially is how well the characters are depicted. Take Grindelwald for example. Unlike Voldemort, a dark wizard we know all too well, Grindelwald doesn’t appear evil or have a desire for a selfish power but more for a vision for a world he deems better. He gains unscrupulous amounts of followers but how? Well he is persuasive and manipulative but not by fear mongering. He appeals to the hearts of his followers. He wants peace…in his own way.

Dumbledore still manages to be the same Dumbledore in Harry Potter as in Fantastic beasts, enabling people to do his work for him without divulging any information about it at all! And can we just appreciate Dumbledore in a three piece suit?!

So don’t regret missing out, read the screenplay, watch the film and remember to believe in the magic.

“Regret is my constant companion. Do not let it become yours.”

  1. Oh, now I want to read this! I didn’t see the movie because I’ve been feeling gross about Johnny Depp, but I really want to discover what happens after Fantastic Beasts.

    1. Read it! Then you can decide if you’d like to watch it as well! I would recommend reading it at least!
