Hello everyone,
So last week was my birthday, I’m now 25 years old! But I got a good little birthday book haul for my birthday despite being in lockdown and thought I’d share it with you!
Louisa May Alcott – Little Women
Blurb:
Set against the backdrop of the American civil war, the story begins to unfold during Christmastime. With their father away at war, the family must endure great poverty induced hardship, often times going hungry. Central to the theme of the novel is the issue of overcoming one’s character flaws. For Meg it is vanity; Jo, temper; Beth, shyness; and Amy, selfishness. Through the various activities of the four sisters told throughout the novel lessons are learned of the consequences of these particular flaws.
I literally can’t wait to read this one! I watched the film at the cinema recently and I absolutely loved it! I got so invested in all the characters and their stories! I’ve heard so many good things about this book too that I felt that I needed to read it! Find it on Amazon
Louisa May Alcott – Good Wives
Good Wives is the second story about the March family.
Blurb:
Three years on from Little Women, the March girls and their friend Laurie are young adults with their futures ahead of them. Although they all face painful trials along the way – from Meg’s sad lesson in housekeeping to Laurie’s disappointment in love and a tragedy which touches them all – each of the girls finally finds happiness, if not always in the way they expect.
I didn’t even know that there was a sequel to Little Women but here it is! Don’t you love it when there are surprise sequels?! Find it on Amazon
Marian Keyes – Grown Ups
Blurb:
They’re a glamorous family, the Caseys.
Johnny Casey, his two brothers Ed and Liam, their beautiful, talented wives and all their kids spend a lot of time together – birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, weekends away. And they’re a happy family. Johnny’s wife, Jessie – who has the most money – insists on it.
Under the surface, though, conditions are murkier. While some people clash, other people like each other far too much . . .
Everything stays under control until Ed’s wife Cara gets concussion and can’t keep her thoughts to herself. One careless remark at Johnny’s birthday party, with the entire family present, starts Cara spilling out all their secrets.
In the subsequent unravelling, every one of the adults finds themselves wondering if it’s time – finally – to grow up?
This book was a gift from a friend for my birthday! I’ve never even heard of this book before but I have previously read Marian Keyes books so I am familiar with the author! Let’s see what fun this has to offer! Find it on Amazon
Lucy Worsley – The Austen Girls
Blurb:
Anna Austen has always been told she must marry rich. Her future depends upon it. While her dear cousin Fanny has a little more choice, she too is under pressure to find a suitor.
But how can either girl know what she wants? Is finding love even an option? The only person who seems to have answers is their Aunt Jane. She has never married. In fact, she’s perfectly happy, so surely being single can’t be such a bad thing?
The time will come for each of the Austen girls to become the heroines of their own stories. Will they follow in Jane’s footsteps?
Okay so I love Lucy Worsley, I mean who doesn’t?! And I also love Jane Austen, again who doesn’t?! So this seems like the perfect combination! We’ll soon find out – find it on Amazon
Holly Jackson – Good Girl, Bad Blood
Blurb:
Pip Fitz-Amobi is not a detective anymore.
With the help of Ravi Singh, she released a true-crime podcast about the murder case they solved together last year. The podcast has gone viral, yet Pip insists her investigating days are behind her.
But she will have to break that promise when someone she knows goes missing. Jamie Reynolds has disappeared but the police won’t do anything about it. And if they won’t look for Jamie then Pip will, uncovering more of her town’s dark secrets along the way… and this time EVERYONE is listening.
But will she find him before it’s too late?
This is a sequel to A Good Girls Guide to Murder which is still on my TBR list! Sounds good so why not! Find it onAmazon
So there you have it, a small but substantial book haul for my birthday! I can’t wait to read them all and share my reviews with you all! However, first of all I need to complete Challenge 2020.
I also wanted to say a big thank you to all of you, my followers and my readers! If it wasn’t for you all, I wouldn’t be doing this! So thank you! Sending you all hugs!
Until next time,
Keep reading,
